Here we will take as a reference the online production of the students of the photogrammetric survey of architecture and, in particular, we will try to monitor some works, carried out in the 1st semester of the current academic year (1999/2000):
1st case ) online transfer of the survey carried out for the "architectural restoration" examination of the degree course in construction engineering. In this case the two students ( Chiara Pice and Onofrio Mastronicola) have already taken the restoration exam. It is a survey returned with a two-dimensional CAD program and presented, for educational needs, on paper.
2nd case ) transfer to the network of a survey similar to the previous one, but in this case the student (Luigi Altomare) has not taken the restoration exam and is carrying out the survey. The programs "AutoCad 14" and "ArchiCad 6.0" were used for the return (in two-year format, to be delivered, again for educational needs, on paper);
3rd case ) year topic carried out by a student (Francisco Jose Fernandez Guirao) who is enrolled in the faculty of architecture of the Polytechnic University of Valencia and follows the restoration course at the faculty of architecture of the Politecnico di Bari. Of particular interest is this work because it uses the analog frames of a photogrammetric survey performed in 1980.
To these three examples we will add three other quite significant ones, because they deal with the problem of representation in three-dimensional space:
4th case ) it is a new line of research that aims to carry out the survey of the built according to the original plans of the same. There are no complex shapes to represent because the building has a modular plan, but there are photogrammetric reliefs of the reinforced concrete structure. and therefore new aspects of the architectural survey can be identified for educational purposes. It is a student (Dario Daddabbo) started using the computer since elementary school and who, consequently, should guarantee a use normal of CAD programs.
5th case ) is an attempt to execute the executive project only with digital support (with an individual study plan), with the calculation of construction and management costs, up to the preparation of the use booklet and maintenance of the building. The particular shape of the building (it is the project of a church) prevents the use of libraries supplied with CAD programs. The student (Davide Daddabbo), who attends the laboratory as part of the tutoring activity, has been started to use the computer since elementary school and, therefore, should use the computer as a fifty year old uses the pencil to write or draw (for him, in fact, it was a game to develop the stereometric image of the monument detected during the "Drawing" course);
6th case ) survey and representation program "ThinkStereo®", written, in the multiplatform language "Java", by a student ( Maurizio Mastrorilli ) who took the examination of architectural photogrammetry and continues the research started during the course. The title of the program says it all and warns against three-dimensional CAD programs, which always draw in a two-dimensional space. The program does nothing but perform, simultaneously, two perspectives of an object on stereometric frames, using the same photographic points as viewpoints. It looks like the egg of Columbus, but you have to "think in stereo";
