TRICARICO-Two hundred people were left homeless due to the earthquake of 23 November: 47 homes evicted because unsafe and another 24 for precautionary purposes: but inspections of technicians continue. not even this country has been spared. Significant damage to the monumental heritage: under the walls of the church of San Francesco, in the square which has returned to play its usual role. many people, stamping their feet in the snow that covered the whole town with their cloak during the night, witness the arrival of the Stereophotogrammetric unit of the Bari city police. With the engineer Antonio Daddabbo of the Institute of Architecture of the engineering faculty at the university of the Apulian capital. The unit, available to the Superintendency of Monuments of Potenza. is using its skills and equipment to make surveys on the monuments of the countries damaged by the earthquake. For the church of San Francesco, data processing will be almost useless: the church must be demolished. It also poses a danger to the surrounding buildings. many of which host exercises that are the only source of income for many people. The Santa Chiara complex has also suffered serious damage such as the Saracen Tower, the Doge's Palace, Lizzadri Palace and Putignani Palace. Perhaps these monuments can be restored with everyone's help. The restoration of the headquarters of the scientific high school becomes more urgent, for now unfit for use, to avoid that the classes continue to be hosted at an elementary school with a double shift. Priority, however, remains the problem of the more than 70 families who have had to leave their homes to find makeshift accommodations elsewhere: "For now - says Mayor Pancrazio Toscano - we have placed the homeless in schools and other makeshift accommodations. We are now considering the possibility of requisitioning some private structures such as vacant houses and some buildings annexed to the sausage factory. We also asked the prefect for some prefabricated buildings; we have already had two from the municipality of Incisa Valdarno with whom we had already had relationships in the past. 'is only the problem of bulldozers. Here, this winter I do not know where to start. ". Here too, the earthquake precipitated already dramatic situations, the housing crisis and the dilapidation of the "historic center" created, even before the disaster, a difficult situation due to the significant demand for houses. The way forward is the one indicated with the "167" but to do it now we need to review the general regulatory plan: These people have no intention of abandoning the mountain on which the old houses are clinging. "It is possible to develop here-says the mayor-modern agriculture, the forest of Fondi and the remarkable artistic and monumental heritage of the country can be exploited for tourism purposes. For this reason and reason we should migrate, albeit within the same province towards industrialization centers already in crisis? And then, shouldn't Tricarico have been made a service center to honor the vaunted decentralization? ". In the meantime. even the employment situation is certainly not rosy. young people here too are waiting for "something" to take them off the street. Geological stability has never been analyzed in Tricarico. not even when part of the town was moved to the Saracena area was a photogrammetric survey made. As we passed through the narrow streets of the historic center, people called us, they wanted us to enter the houses to see the injuries caused by the earthquake on those faces, the resignation of those who have always waited for any solution to the many problems. Under the houses. however, there are at least two other floors: stables and basements built to fit a peasant civilization that has changed habits even if not exceptionally. Probably no one enters those rooms for a long time: what damage did the earthquake cause here? On what basis do dwellings that apparently have not suffered damage rest? The country seems, however. want to start. in the shortest possible time, to normality: on this occasion it will also be possible to measure the real efficiency of the local autonomies and the role they can play for the reconstruction.
